Five pirates jailed in Bagerhat
A court here yesterday convicted five pirates and awarded them 17 years' imprisonment each. The convicts are Ishaq Uddin, 50, Monir Hossain Sarder, 30, Akram Gazi, Monir Hawlader, 22, of Bagerhat district and Shaheed Khandaker,35, of Barguna district. According to prosecution, forest guards arrested the five pirates from a trawler in Chandershar area in Sharankhola upazila on August 22,2007 when they were taking preparation for committing piracy. They also recovered two firearms, nine rounds of bullet and arms making materials from the trawler.
