Charge framed against 53 mutineers in Netrakona

The special court-17 yesterday framed mutiny charge against 53 jawans of BGB 16 Battalion in Netrakona under the Mymensingh sector. After hearing, the court headed by Kushtia Sector Commander Col MD Nazrul Islam Sarker, framed charges against the accused. Of the accused, 34 confessed to their involvement in the mutiny at the battalion headquarters on February 26 in 2009 while the rest claimed innocence. The complainant alleged that the accused revolted against their officers, took control of the battalion headquarters, looted firearms and ammunition from armoury and fired blank shorts. Our Khagrachhari correspondent reported that the special court-15 recorded depositions of five out of 74 prosecution witnesses in the mutiny case against against 69 mutineers of 11-Batalian under Khagrachhari sectorb headquarters yesterday adjourned the trial proceedings until 9:00am today. All the 69 accused in the case were produced in the court headed by Khagrachhari Sector Commander Lt Col Abu Wahab Mohammad Hafizul Haque. Two other members are Lt Col Sayadis Sakline and Major A Z M Golam Mostafa AL Mamun, Earlier, Five out of the 69 accused confessed to their involvement in the mutiny at the battalion and begged for mercy while the rest claimed innocence. After recording statements of the witnesses, the court adjourned trial proceedings until 10:00am today. The rest of the witnesses will start giving deposition before the court today, court sources said. Deputy Attorney General Kazi Mohammad Ejarul Haque Akand, Special Public Prosecutors Md. Habibur Rahman and Aminur Rahman Khan were present.
