Verdict in case against 13 Mar 1

The Special Court-13 will deliver judgement in the mutiny case against 13 jawans of BGB Dinajpur sector on March 1. The court, headed by Dinajpur Sector Commander Col Saleh Ahmad, fixed the date on Thursday after framing charges against all the accused. Two other members of the court are Lt Col Mahfuz Alam and Major Muhammad Masud Ul Islam. Of the accused, 11 confessed to their involvement in the mutiny at the sector headquarters on February 26 in 2009 while the rest claimed innocence. Arguments between the prosecution witnesses and the accused were also held yesterday, court source said. A total of 17 witnesses gave their statements before the court. Trial of the mutiny case began at the special court, set up at Dinajpur sector headquarters, on November 27 last year. At the beginning, Junior Commanding Officer (JCO) Enamul Haque brought the charges against 13 rebels of the sector. The complainant told the court that the jawans revolted against their officers on February 26, 2009, looted firearms and ammunition from armoury and fired blank shots. The trial proceedings started at 9:30am and continued until 3:00pm. Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy was present on half of the attorney general.
