30 injured as BCL, JCD clash in Sirajganj

Clash between activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at Sirajganj Government College left at least 30 people injured yesterday morning. In Kurigram, a JCD leader was hospitalised following head injuries caused by BCL activists on Wednesday afternoon. Fifteen of the 30 people, injured during yesterday's clash between activists of BCL and JCD on Sirajganj Government College campus, were admitted to Sirajganj General Hospital, reports our Sirajganj Correspondent. Following an altercation centring the syllabus of National University in 2009-10 session at the college campus, the two groups engaged in a clash, police and witnesses said. During the two-hour-long clash, two groups hurled brick chips on each other, causing injuries to 30 people including Babu, Ashik, Monowar, Jewel, Salman, Musa, Malek, Raju, Dipu, Jakir and Mamun. Seven houses and eight shops adjacent to the college campus were also vandalised during the incident. Our Kurigram correspondent adds: BCL activists injured joint secretary of the district unit of JCD Hosnain Ahmed Hijal in College More area of Kurigram town on Wednesday. As a sequel to assaulting of a few activists of JCD and BCL by the two rival student organisations during the last few days in the town, some BCL activists beat Hosnain Ahmed Hijal with sticks in College More area when he was came out from Kurigram town hall after completing examination of National Service Programme at about 2:00pm. With head injuries, he was admitted to Kurigram Sadar Hospital.
