Verdict in case against 44 today
The special court-17 will deliver verdict in the mutiny case against 44 jawans of 37 Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today.
The court headed by Kustia Sector Commander Col Nazrul Islam Sarker fixed the date after framing charges against the rebels on January 3 this year, Prosecutor Lt Col Zahid Hasan said.
Of the accused, 15 confessed to their involvement in the mutiny at the battalion under BGB Rajshahi sector while the rest claimed innocence.
Nayeb Subedar Nazrul Islam filed the case against the 44 mutineers with the special court on November 11 last year.
In the case statement, he alleged that the accused revolted against their officers at the battalion on February 26 in 2009. They looted firearms and ammunition from armoury and fired blank shots, he said, adding that the accused desecrated portrait of the then BDR DG Shakil Ahmed.
