2000 kg OMS rice seized
At least 2000 kilograms of Open Market Sale (OMS) rice were seized from a trader's house at Uchaliapara village under Sarail upazila on Tuesday night.
According to Sarail upazila nirbahi office sources, rice trader Md. Salim Mia of the village allegedly collected the rice from different dishonest OMS dealers of the area.
There he started replacing the sealed bags of OMS rice with other ones in a bid to sell them in local market at high price.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials headed by Sarail upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Md. Helal Uddin raided to the spot. But Salim instantly fled the scene.
The seized OMS rice was taken to Sarail police station and stored on its premises.
