KMC reopens, warns outsiders
Khulna Medical College (KMC) reopened yesterday after remaining closed for a week.
The KMC authorities closed the college for an indefinite period on January 25 following a clash between two rival factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus.
Decision to reopen the college and all dormitories was taken in a meeting of academic council held on Tuesday with Principal Hamid Asgar in the chair.
The students started returning to their dormitories from yesterday morning.
Contacted, Principal Hamid Asgar said the authorities took the decision to reopen the college considering academic career of the students.
"The academic council will take stern action from now on in case of any attempt by any outsider to incite students for vitiating academic atmosphere of the college," he added.
President of BCL college unit Chayon Biswas and General Secretary Asif Iqbal were expelled by the college authorities in February last year for carrying out political activities on the campus defying ban.
On January 25, the two BCL leaders along with their supporters staged a demonstration on the campus demanding withdrawal of expulsion order.
As their rivals led by Joint Secretary of BCL college unit Sabbir Ahmed Ayon strongly protested demonstration on the campus, a violent clash took place between the two factions, leaving eight people from both sides injured.
