Human chain in Rangpur for punishment to stalkers
A mobile court in Satkhira on Tuesday jailed a stalker while a human chain was formed in Rangpur yesterday demanding punishment to stalkers.
A mobile court on Tuesday sentenced a youth to one month's jail for stalking a teenage girl in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira, reports our correspondent.
Kalaroa upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) A N M Tariqul Islam, also the executive magistrate, delivered the judgment after hearing both sides.
Convict Raju Ahmed alias Ripon, 23, is son of Tajul Islam of village Uttar Murarikati in Kalaroa upazila.
Mobile court sources said Ripon used to stalk Bilkis Khatun, 13, daughter of Md Samsuddin Ahmed of village Mirzapur on her way to and from school.
Victim's father Samsuddin Ahmed filed a case with Kalaroa police station against the stalker on Tuesday and police immediately arrested him.
Later, a mobile court led by Kalaroa upazila nirbahi officer punished the stalker.
In Rangpur, students and teachers of Rangpur Carmichael College formed a human chain yesterday demanding action against the stalkers who, after getting bail from jail on Monday, threatened the victims again, reports our correspondent.
The human chain held in the town demanded punishment to the stalkers for whom Ankhi, the victim of their stalking , in now in distress.
Mamun and Rajib, students of accounting department of the college were caught red-handed recently at Lalbagh by locals while they were harassing a number of students who came to save Ankhi, an English department student.
A case was registered with Rangpur kotwali police station in this connection. Police sent the two to Rangpur central jail.
On Monday, getting freed from jail on bail they went to the campus and threatened Ankhi and others of dire consequences.
In Khulna. a stalker was sent to jail for harassing a female college student at Dhangmary village in Dakope upazila yesterday.
The convict was identified as Ratan Roy, 25, of the village.
Police said Ratan used to tease the female student on her way to college. Later, her father filed a case with Dakope PS against Ratan on January 22.
