31 rescued while being trafficked to India
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 31 people while they were being trafficked to India through Boroachra border in Benapole yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, BGB personnel launched a drive in the area and rescued the victims. They were later handed over to Benapole port police.
The victims are Ayesha Begum, 22, Shila Begum, 23, Sathi Begum, 22, Ishanti Mondol, 30, Shapna Begum, 20, Sumi Akhter, 24, Gita Ghose, 22, Hena Begum, 32, Sharmin Akhter, 21, Shimu Begum, 20, Baby Akhther, 5, Akhther Mollah, 25, Enamul Sikdar, 30, Sakhawat Hossain, 40, Nasir Sheikh, 40, Sohag Hossain, 18, Nazmul Hossain, 18, Shanto Mia, 23, Subod Biswas, 43, Alo Ghose, 20, Shahidullah, 21, Mizan, 42, Ujjal Mia, 18, A Alim, 25, Mintu Mia, 30, Ismail Hossain, 24, Ali Akbar, 24, Shariful, 28, Sujan Kumar, 25, Choyon Kumar, 18, and Pronoy Biswas, 24.
BGB Benapole camp in-charge Nazrul Islam said a gang of traffickers brought the 31 people from Barisal, Sylhet and Chittagong districts and was sending them to India, promising good jobs.
BGB could not arrest any of the traffickers as they fled the scene, sensing presence of the border guards.
