One killed, 8 hurt as rival groups clash in B' baria
Kishoreganj clash leaves 40 injured
One person was killed and eight others were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Krishnanagar village under Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district yesterday morning.
The dead was identified as Md Jahangir Alam, 30, son the Md. Nuroo Sarder of the village.
Police and witnesses said the clash was a sequel to a long-standing enmity between Shafial Mia and Kazal Mia of Krishnanagar village. To establish supremacy at the village, supporters of the two equipped with lethal locked in a clash in Kandapara area at around 10:30am, leaving at least nine from both sides injured, according to our correspondent.
Of them, Md Jahangir Alam, 30, succumbed to his injuries on the way to Nabinagar Upazila Heaslth Complex while eight others, including Jahangir's father Md Nuru Sarder, were admitted to the hospital.
The body was sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy. No case was filed with the police station concerned as of 6:00pm yesterday.
Our Kishoreganj correspondent reported that at least 40 were injured in a clash between two groups over capture of a water body in Austagram upazila on Sunday night.
Police quoted locals as saying that two groups, one led by Kamal Pasha, chairman of Abdullahpur Union in Austagram upazila, and another by Mannar Kha group of Abdullahpur village, clashed over capture of Chhairachandi water body at around 10:00pm.
The feuding groups used firearms, iron rods and other deadly weapons during the clash, leaving at least 50 people from both sides injured. Of them, eight were injured by bullets and sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
They are Yahiya Khan, 27, Humayun Kha, 26, Rubel Khan, 15, Subar Khan, 20, Sujan Khan, 24, Dulal Mia, 28, Kutub Mia, 40 and Yasmin Akhter, 27.
The rest of the injured were admitted Kishoreganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital, Habiganj Hospital and Austagram Upazila Health Complex.
Mannar Khan group said they went to take control of the water body as per court order, but Kamal Pasha and his men attacked them. Alam Bepary of Kamal Pasha group alleged that they came under attack as they tried to prevent Mannan Khan's men from capturing the water body.
