Protest Against Removal of Acting Dean
Arts faculty teachers on strike at KU
Teachers of arts faculty of Khulna University (KU) yesterday began indefinite work stoppage protesting removal of the acting dean of the faculty by the university authorities on January 16.
They also staged a sit-in for two hours from 10:00am at the university shaheed minar and held a rally there demanding withdrawal of the order issued by the vice chancellor.
Khulna University Teachers' Association (Kuta) has expressed solidarity with the ongoing agitation of the teachers of arts faculty.
The work stoppage will continue until the vice chancellor withdraws the official order, said the agitating teachers.
Acting dean Prof ARM Mostafizur Rahman said the VC issued a letter on January 16, asking him to quit the post. Such conduct shown by the vice chancellor in dealing with an important but sensitive issue is disgraceful and illegal, he said.
Contacted, a high official of the public relations department said the VC has done nothing wrong as an associate professor like ARM Mostafizur Rahman can not be a fulltime dean of any faculty of the university. He was simply holding temporary charge as dean of the faculty, the official said, adding that only a full time professor is entitled to hold the post of dean of any faculty under Section 28(5) of Khulna University Act-1990.
