20 mayor candidates lose security deposit

Twenty mayoral candidates out of 38 in seven municipalities of the district have lost their security deposit for failing to get one-eighth of the total votes as per the Election Commission law. In Pabna municipality, five mayoral aspirants have lost their security deposit as they failed to secure one-eighth of the total votes in the election held on January 12. They are AL rebel candidates Ragib Hassan Tipu and Aminul Haque, BNP backed candidate Siddikur Rahman, Tipu, Jatiya Party nominated candidate Rajiullah Ranju, and Jamaat candidate Iqbal Hossain. BNP rebel candidate Kamrul Hassan won the election defeating AL backed candidate Abu Ishaque Shamim. Security deposit of BNP rebel candidate Zakaria Pintu has been forfeited in Ishwardi municipality. In Sujanagar municipality, upazila Jubo league vice president Raja Hassan, upazila AL leader AKM Shayet Azad, upazila BNP chief Azam Biswas and JCD leader Shafiul Alam Babu have lost their security deposit. In Chatmohar municipality, independent mayor candidate Mahtab Hossain and nine councillor candidates have lost their security deposit. In Vangura municipality, four candidates have lost their security deposit. They are BNP backed candidate advocate Mujibar Rahman, AL backed candidate Lokman Hossain, former mayor Osman Gani and Jatiya party candidate Abdul Latif. BNP rebel candidate Saiful Islam lost his security deposit In Santhia municipality. In Faridpur municipality, the immediate past mayor and BNP rebel candidate Abul Hossain, BNP backed candidate Raihanul Islam and AL rebel candidate Asaduzzaman Alal have lost their security money. AL backed candidate Kamruzzaman Mazed won the election.
