Four leaders and activists of Jatiayatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) were injured on Rajshahi University (RU) campus in an attack on them by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at a rally organized by JCD men on the occasion of the 75th birth anniversary of late president Ziaur Rahman. The injured were identified as university unit JCD convener Arafat Resa Ashiq and joint convener Salauddin Rana, Zahurul Islam alias Rose and activist Hasem Ali. They were admitted to the university medical center for treatment. Sources said JCD leaders and activists held a rally in front of Shahidullah Arts building at around 11:30am. Hearing the news, a group of BCL activists led by Sharifur Rahman and Kamal Ahmed attacked the rally with iron rods, sticks and sharp weapons leaving Ahsiq and Rose severely injured on the spot. The BCL men also chased the JCD men and drove them out of the campus. During chase they hurled brickbats leaving JCD joint convener Salauddin Rana and activist Hasem Ali injured. Later JCD leaders and activists staged a demonstration in Kazla area outside the campus where they alleged that BCL 'cadres' attacked them to establish 'political supremacy' on the campus. Criticising the role of university authorities, they alleged that the authorities have failed to take proper steps against the BCL leaders and activists.
