<i>16 mayor aspirants lose deposit</i>
Sixteen mayoral candidates in eight municipalities of Jhenidah and Gaibandha district lost their security deposit for failing to get one-eighth of the total votes as per Election Commission (EC) law.
In Kotchandpur municipality under Jhenidah district, AL candidate Kazi Alamgir Hossain and Jamaat candidate Moabia Hossain lost their security deposit in the election held on January 13, reports our correspondent.
Independent candidate Obaidul Haque in Moheshpur municipality has lost his security deposit. In Horinakundu municipality, Islami Shasantranta candidate Mohiuddin Biswas and AL rebel Akbar Ali have lost their security deposit.
AL rebel mayoral candidates Motiar Rahman Moti and Ohiduzzaman Odu, BNP rebel candidate Shahnaz Parvin and Jaker Party candidate Azizur Rahman have lost their security deposit in Kaliganj municipalities.
Our Gaibandha correspondent reported that seven mayoral candidates in three municipalities of the district have lost their security deposit as they failed to secure one-eighth of the total votes.
In Gaibandha municipality, four mayoral candidates have lost their security deposit. They are Shah shariful Islam Bablu of JSD (Inu), Hamidul Huq of BNP, Momtazur Rahman Banu of Workers Party and independent candidate Sahadat Hossain Suja, according to our correspondent.
In Gobindaganj municipality, independent candidate Motin Mollah has lost his security deposit.
Two candidates out of six have lost their security deposit In Sunderganj municipality. They are independent candidate Fakhrul Islam Milu and Swechchhasebok League Sahadat Hossain Sabuj.
