Drug peddlers injure two BDR men

Two Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) members were injured in an attack by drug peddlers along Daulatpur frontier here early yesterday. BDR commander Siddiqur Rahman said being tipped-off that a gang of drug peddlers with huge smuggled phensidyl syrup were entering the country from India, they chased the peddlers in Ghonarmath area in the early morning. At one stage, drug peddlers attacked BDR members with sharp weapons that left two border guards injured. Later, the peddlers fled the scene leaving behind the contraband drugs when BDR members fired 18 rounds of bullet. The jawans later seized 12 sacks of phensidyl syrup from the spot. In Satkhira, BDR in a drive on Sunday night recovered a large quantity of Indian sari from a truck at Sharashkati Bazaar in Kolaroa upazila. Acting on a tip-off, BDR 41, battalion chased a Keshabpur-bound truck from Satkhira frontier area at night. At one stage, the smugglers fled away leaving behind the truck at the bazaar. Later, the border guards recovered huge Indian saris worth Tk 20 lakh from the truck.
