Verdict in Rangamati mutiny case Feb 5
The judgement in Rangamati BDR mutiny case will be delivered on February 5, special court sources said.
After completion of argument, the special court-15, headed by Col Zahedur Rahman, fixed the date. Two other members of the court are Lt Col Md Abdun Nur and Maj Golam Mostafa-al-Mamun
A total of 35 prosecution witnesses gave their deposition before the special court.
Twenty-three mutineers of 18 Rifles Battalion yesterday argued with the witnesses.
Of the accused, 22 claimed innocence and appealed to the court to acquit them of the mutiny charge. Only an accused named Subeder Major Md Shah Alam confessed to his involvement in mutiny at the battalion on February 26 in 2009.
Prosecutor Lt Col Mehedi Hasan first gave statement against the accused jawans and the jawnas argued with him. After receiving statements and arguments from both prosecutors and the accused, the court fixed February 5 for prouncement of verdict in the mutiny case.
The 23 accused are Nayek Habibur Rahman, lance Nakek Mominur Rahman, sepoys Kamruzzaman and Shahim Ahmed, Nayek Abdul Haque, Nayek Zakir Hossain, lance nayeks (signal) Mizanur Rahman, Ramzan Ali and Solaiman Ahmmad, Lance Nayek Enamul Karim, sepoys Mizanur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam and Hadiuzzaman, havilders Selim Reza, Monirul Islam and Amir Hossain, nayeks Azizul Islam and Ajahar Hossain, sepoys Abu Sayed, Aldin Hossain and Abdur Razzak, Subeder Major Shah Alam and Havilder Altaf Hossain.
All the 23 accused were produced in the special court and sent back to Rangamati jail. Public prosecutors advocates Bilayet Hossain and Aminur Rahman Khan were present.
