Mymensingh: AL candidate violating code, alleges BNP

Local BNP leaders at a press conference here yesterday accused the Awami League (AL) backed mayoral candidate Ekramul Haque Titu of violating election code of conduct. They alleged the supporters of Titu, also mayor-in-charge of Mymensingh municipalily, are creating obstacles to electioneering of their candidate AKM Shafiqul Islam and giving threat to his workers, according to our correspondent. He is using staff of the municipality in his election campaign and holding rallies and motorcycle procession violating the code of conduct, they told the press conference at local press club in the afternoon. They further alleged the AL mayoral candidates and his workers are giving money to the voters in different areas, particularly in slum areas of the municipality. We informed the local administration and returning officer of our allegations several times, but to no effect, the BNP leaders said.

Netrakona: AL expels 'rebel'

Former mayor of Durgapur municipality and upazila Jubo League leader Kamal Pasha has been expelled from Awami League on charge of breaking party discipline. The decision came from an executive committee meeting of upazila Awami League on Saturday, reports UNB. Meeting sources said the upazila unit expelled Pasha as he contesting for mayoral post of the municipality defying the directive of the central committee. Election to Durgapur municipality will be held tomorrow.
