Security money of 13 forfeited

Security money of 13 out of 23 mayor aspirants in three municipalities of Kurigram district has been forfeited as they failed to secure one-eighth of the total votes cast in Wednesday's elections. They are Md Majidul Islam (Jatiya Party) and Md Shakawat Hossain Bipul (Independent) in kurigram municipality. BNP rebel candidate Md Nur Islam Nuru won the election defeating his nearest rival Md Abdul Zalil of AL. In Ulipur municipality, security money of AL rebel candidates Abu Sayed Sarkar, Md Shajjdur Rahman and Md Abdullahhel Baki, BNP rebel candidate Md Aminul Islam and Islami Shasantantra Andolan candidate Md Mozammel Haque Manik has been forfeited. Awami League candidate Md Abdul Hamid Sarkar won the election, securing 8,945 votes while his nearest BNP candidate Md Haidar Ali got 6,981 votes. Security money of BNP rebel candidates Golam Rasul Raja, Mohammad Hossain Faqu, Md Hasem Ali Sardar and Md Fazlul Haque, JP rebel candidate Md Hossen Ali and Islami Shasantrantra Andolan candidate Abdur Rab has been forfeited in Nageswari municipality.
