Houses, shops gutted
Four houses and 27 shops have been gutted in fire incidents in Thakurgaon, Sunamganj and Sherpur.
A devastating fire gutted four dwelling houses at Bangaleepara village in Sadar upazila of Thakurgaon early Tuesday, reports UNB.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from a burning mosquito coil at the cow-shed of Yakub Ali at about 1:00am. Five cows and six goats were burnt in the fire.
The fire also engulfed the adjacent three dwelling houses.
The affected house owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 4 lakh.
In Sunamganj, at least five shops were gutted in a fierce fire that broke out at Surma market in the district town Sunday night.
Local people said the fire originated from a burning cigarette butt at a shop of the market and soon engulfed four other adjacent shops at about 11pm.
Affected shop owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 5 lakh.
In Sherpur, 22 shops were gutted in a fire, which broke out at Gazni Abokash Parjaton Kendra in frontier Jhenaigati upazila on Saturday night.
The cause of the fire could not be known.
The affected shop owners estimated the losses caused by the fire at about Tk 20 lakh.
