JMB man jailed for 10 years

A Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leader was jailed in Pabna in serial bomb attack case on Monday while an activist of the banned Islamist outfit was held in Kurigram the day before. A court in Pabna convicted a JMB leader and sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for involvement in 2005 series bomb attack , reports UNB. Convict Nurul Islam alias Kawsar, comes from North Moheshpur village in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat district. The court also acquitted two other accused -- Mukul Hossain and Hasmat Ali -- as charges brought against them were not proved. Additional District and Sessions Judge Manjur Kader, handed down the verdict at around 11:30am in a crowded courtroom. The case was filed with Pabna Sadar police station after the bombs went off simultaneously at different places of the district town, including Pabna court and bus terminal areas on August 17 in 2005. In Kurigram, Sadar police on Sunday morning arrested a JMB activist at Sobhandaha village of Ghogadaha union, reports our correspondent. The arrestee was identified as Md Shafijul alias Hafez Uddin Hujur, son of Md Khaibar Ali of the village. Police said, JMB activists including Shafijul had a gunfight with police at Hathazari upazila of Chittagong on December 26 last year when police attacked their camp there. After the incident, he fled from the area and went to Noakhali district. A week ago he came to his village home in Kurigram and stayed at his father-in-law's house. A team of Kurigram Sadar police led by Sub-inspector Abdul Hai, acting on a tip-off, raided the house at about 6.00am on Sunday and arrested him.
