VGD-VGF 'Scam' in Bhandaria
UNO office besieged
Poor people on Wednesday besieged the office of the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) protesting alleged corruption in the VGD and VGF programmes in Bhandaria upazila.
Several hundred poor people from seven unions under the banner of 'Upazila Nagorik Committee' led by upazila vice chairman Khan M Rustam Ali laid a siege to the UNO office at about 11:00am to protest alleged malpractice in preparing the list under VGD and VGF programmes.
They alleged that the ruling party activists and members of the VGD and VGF card distribution committee are being included in the list depriving the genuine poor people.
“We will be forced to launch tougher agitation if the corruption and nepotism is not removed while making the list of the VGD and VGF card holders in the area,” said the upazila vice chairman.
UNO Khairul Hassan said the formation of committee and enlisting the names of the VGD and VGF card holders are yet to be completed. He said an impartial list will be prepared visiting door to door.
Bhandaria upazila Awami League leader Shahidul Haque Khan Panna said no ruling party activists were involved in preparing the list.
