Gaibandha: 4 candidates fined for breaching code of conduct
Four candidates vying for mayor and councillor posts of Gaibandha municipality were fined on Tuesday for breaching election code of conduct, reports our correspondent.
A summary court led by judicial magistrate Azizur Rahman on investigation found that the candidates printed oversized posters violating the election commission order.
The court fined mayoral candidate Momtazur Rahman Babu Tk2,000, ward councillor candidates Abdus Samad Rokon, Abu Hossain Abu and Abdul Hye were fined Tk1,000 each on charge of hanging oversized posters.
Meanwhile, one Nonku Chandra Barman on behalf of councillor candidate Emdadul Islam alleged that councillor candidate Binoy Kumar Bosnia breached election code of conduct in Sunderganj.
According to the allegation, workers of Binoy Kumar were distributing clothes, saris and cash among the voters for casting vote in his favour. The workers of the said candidate have also been threatening the supporters of opposition candidates.
The Returning Officer, also UNO Sunderganj said an investigation committee was formed to probe the allegation. Measures will be taken against other candidates if the allegations are found authentic, he said.
Jhenidah: Rebel candidate's poll camp 'ransacked'
Kazi Ashraful Azam, rebel AL mayor candidate in Sailkupa municipal election, has alleged that the supporters of AL nominated candidate Toyebur Rahman Khan ransacked his election camp on Monday, according to our correspondent.
He said at least 45 people led by Toyebur Rahman attacked his camp in Sailkupa municipal town at around 1:00pm. They ransacked the camp, beat up some campaigners and locked the office, he added.
Azam said he informed the officer-in-charge of Sailkupa police station and the returning officer of the incident.
When contacted, Returning Officer Ajmal Haque said Kazi Azam had alleged that the supporters of his rival candidate ransacked his election office in the municipality and put it under lock and key.
