Teachers protest 2 shifts in govt high schools

Teachers of non-govt high schools formed a human chain in front of the local press club Tuesday to protest introduction of two shifts in government high schools of the district. After staging the human chain for an hour, the agitating teachers submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Biswas. They urged the government to meet their demand. The teachers suggested that the two shifts could be introduced only in divisional level schools. The human chain was jointly organised by the teachers' association and teachers' association federation. The teachers from at least 47 non-govt high schools of Jhalakathi participated in the human chain at about 11am. Jhalakathi upazila mayor Abdul Halim Gazi, president of District Non-government Teacher Association Shamsul Haque, secretary general Anisur Rahman Polash, Shyamol Sarker, A K M Samsuddoha, Abdul Khaleq, Tanjer Ali Khan, Abdul Barek Mia, Sujit Kanti Basu and Alamgir Hossain spoke at the human chain.
