A human chain was formed on Dhaka-Mawa Highway yesterday morning demanding construction of Bangabandhu Airport at Arial Beel. A large number of people from different professions also brought out precession and took part in the 20-km long human chain that stretched from Old Ferry Terminal to Kuchiamora in Srinagar upazila. Addressing a brief rally at Nimtoli point, the speakers said that condition of people of this area would improve, their scope for employment will increase while the area would turn into a commercial hub if the airport is constructed at Arial Beel. The government decided to construct modern Bangabandhu Airport on 25,000 acres of land at Arial Beel, a water body which encompasses Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj and Nababganj and Dohar of Dhaka. A section of local people protested the government's decision and held different programmes to air their opposition.
