400 BNP, JCD men sued
Four hundred activists including a few local leaders of BNP and its student association JCD were sued by Boalia police following Friday's clashes that left some 50 injured in the city.
Sub inspector Hafizur Rahman of the police station lodged the case on Friday night, identifying 49 while keeping others unnamed, on charge of engaging in clash and obstructing police from carrying out duty.
The FIR mentioned that BNP joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Rajshahi BNP president Nadim Mostafa were leading the rally that attacked the on duty police.
Rajshahi district JCD president Shafikul Islam Samapta was made the main accused in the case, said Shahadat Hossain, OC of the PS. The unnamed accused are being identified with the help of video footages taken by police during the clashes, he added.
BNP and JCD men clashed with police on Friday afternoon after police charged baton on a BNP rally held on the occasion of JCD's founding anniversary.
In Pabna, police dispersed a procession of the district unit BNP yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The procession was brought out to protest fling of cases against BNP secretary Khandaker Delwar Hossain, former speaker Jamir Uddin Sircar and former deputy speaker Akther Hamid Siddik.
BNP sources claimed that at least 10 of their activists were injured in police action.
The district unit BNP brought out the procession from the district unit BNP office yesterday noon. Police charged batons in front of party office compelling the party men to hold meeting inside the office.
Contacted, the officer in-charge of Pabna police station said they dispersed the procession as it was brought out without taking permission.
