Verdict in case against 61 mutineers Jan 31
The Special Court-14, set up at Sylhet Sector headquarters, will deliver judgement in the mutiny case against 61 BDR men of the sector on January 31.
During the argument on Wednesday, Prosecutor AKM Aurangajeb narrated the incidents that took place at the sector headquarters on February 26 last year.
Of the accused, 28 confessed to their involvement in the mutiny while the rest claimed innocence at the special court headed by Col SM Farhad. Two other members of the court are Lt Col Akhtaruzzaman and Major Maksudul Alam.
Deputy Attorney General Farhad Ahmed represented the Attorney General while special public prosecutors Gazi Zillur Rahman and Habibur Rahman were present.
During the argument, the prosecutor said the accused jawans took control of the sector headquarters in the city's Akhalia area on Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway on February 26. They looted firearms from armoury, fire blank shots, blocked the road in front of the 21 Battalion headquarters' main gate. And set fire to a number of vehicles, he added.
The then officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Syeduzzaman filed three separate cases with the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on May 17 last year against the BDR men of Sylhet sector and two battalions under the sector as they revolted against their officers, expressing solidarity with the mutineers of BDR headquarters at Pilkhana in the capital.
