Stalker jailed in Nilphamari
Additional District Magistrate's Court, Nilphamari, on Sunday sentenced a young man to 40 days' imprisonment for stalking a college girl.
The convict is Sakib Ahmed Sagor, 20, son of Ekramul Haque of Bangalipur village under Saidpur upazila of the district.
Court and victim's family sources said Sakib has been teasing Sumana Afroj Airin, 18, an HSC student of Nilphamari Government College on her way to the college for the last one year.
He also gave an indecent proposal to Sumana and sent SMS to her and her family members through cellphone, threatening them of dare consequences if his proposal was not accepted.
On Sunday, when Sumana was going to the college to fill up form for the upcoming HSC examinations, Sakib intercepted her near local football ground and started hurling abuse at her.
As Sumana cried for help, local people caught Sakib and handed him over to the police. Police produced him in the court the same day.
After examining witnesses, Additional District Magistrate AKM Aminur Rahman pronounced the verdict at 7:00pm. The magistrate also fined the convict Tk 5,000, in default, he is to suffer ten days more in jail.
