Cuta polls today

Election of the Chittagong University Teachers' Association (Cuta) will be held today. Prof M Ruhul Amin of public administration department will compete for the post of president from Awami League backed `yellow' panel while Prof Dr M Atiqur Rahman of botany department will vie for the post from BNP-Jamaat backed 'white' panel. Prof Dr M Sekander Chowdhury of Islamic history and culture department will vie for the post of general secretary from 'yellow' panel and Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Amin of institute of forestry and environmental sciences to contest for the post from 'white' panel. Other 'yellow' panel candidates are Prof Dr Mohammad Safiul Alam of forestry and environmental sciences (vice president), Assistant Prof Mohammad Asadul Hoque of physics department (joint secretary) and Associate Professor Dr. M Anwarul Kabir of accounting and information systems department (treasurer). The 'white' panel candidates are Prof Dr M Abdul Karim of statistics department (vice-president), Assistant Prof Mohammad Mosharof Hossain of botany department (joint secretary) and Prof Dr Mohammad Ali Azadi of zoology department (treasurer). Meanwhile, six candidates from each panel will contest for executive membership of the 11-member Cuta executive committee, said chief election commissioner Prof M Afsar Ali of philosophy department. At least 645 voters will exercise franchise in the polling at BBA faculty and auditorium from 9:30am to 1:30pm, he said.
