Murder accused Jubo League leader surrenders, sent to jail
Pabna Cognizance Court-3 yesterday sent Sujanagar upazila unit Jubo League Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Tofa, after he surrendered to the court in a murder case.
Tofa, also a mayoral candidate in Sujanagar municipality, had prayed for bail but the court rejected it.
After Jubo League activist Abu Bakkar was hacked to death near Sujanagar Cinema Hall area over internal feud on September 3, a case was filed against 23 people including Tofazzal Hossain Tofa and he was on the run since then, said ABM Jahid Hossain, officer in charge of Sujanagr police station.
Tofa said he has been accused in the case due to 'political conspiracy' following his expression of desire to contest in the municipality mayoral election.
His nomination paper was submitted earlier in his absence.
Tofa's counsel advocate Abdul Ahad said his client will contest the mayoral election from jail.
Several hundred supporters including AL and Jubo League activists accompanied Tofa to the court.
