Nine brick kilns fined

A mobile court here fined nine brick kilns at Ghatail upazila on Sunday on charge of violating rules. The court realised Tk 4,45,000 and recovered 11,450cft wood from the brick kilns during the drive, sources in Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said. The mobile court led by Tangail NDC Rabiul Islam along with members of Crime Prevention Company-3 of Rab-12 led by its DAD Abdul Mannan raided the brick kilns at different villages including Deolabari in the upazila and fined the brick kilns for not renewing licenses and burning wood illegally. The court fined SRS, ASB, Progoti Bricks, Rifat Bricks, Suchuna Bricks, Adarsha Bricks, Modern Bricks and Swasesh Bricks Tk 50,000 each and SSB Bricks Tk 45,000 and deposited the realised money to government treasury. Officials of local forest department and police also aided the mobile court during the raid. However, another illegal brick kiln, which was constructed by an influential person on the agricultural lands in Deolabari village in the same upazila without taking any permission from the authorities concern, escaped the drive, locals alleged. Petitions were submitted to the local and district administrations against construction of the illegal brick kiln but to no effect, they added.
