Charge framing against 61 BDR men tomorrow
A special court of BDR (Bangladesh Rifles) will frame charges against 61 alleged mutineers of Sylhet sector headquarters tomorrow.
The date was fixed on 21 October last by the tribunal chief.
On 20 October, prosecutor Major AKM Aurangajeb, also acting commanding officer of Sylhet Sector, gave a detailed description of the incidents of 26 February of 2009 at the sector headquarters in Sylhet.
The Special Court-14, headed by Comilla Sector Commander Col SM Farhad heard the description and adjourned the trial proceedings till 8:30 am on December 27.
The other panel members are Lt Colonel Akhtaruzzaman and Major Md Masudul Haque.
All the 61 accused were produced before the special court.
On hearing the prosecution in the case, the court asked the authorities concerned for supplying copies of the charges and other documents immediately to each of the accused, so that they can take preparation to defend themselves.
Earlier, Subedar Abdul Gani read out the allegations before the panel against the accused.
Of the 61 accused, 33 mutineers had been in jail hajat while the rest 28 were arrested on October 20 morning.
The then officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali police station Inspector Syeduzzaman filed three separate cases with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on May 17 last year against the BDR men of Sylhet sector and two separate battalions stationed in Sylhet alleging activities supporting the mutiny at Pilkhana headquarters.
They were immediately arrested and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate ourt which sent them to the jail hajat.
Judgement in Sylhet region's first case for the BDR mutiny was given on 2 August this year. The Special Court-3 of BDR that day sentenced 14 BDR men of 8 Rifles Battalion, Sunamganj to different terms for their involvement in the mutiny.
