Noakhali: 5 hurt as supporters of rival candidates clash
At least five leaders and activists of Jubo League and Chhatra League were injured as the supporters of AL-nominated candidate and rival candidate of Hatiya municipality clashed near the Hatiya Upazila Complex on Wednesday, reports our correspondent.
Sources said, AL rival candidate Md Yusuf Ali claimed before the election official that AL-nominated candidate advocate Saifuddin Ahmed is a loan defaulter.
At that time, the upazila nirbahi officer and returning officer Harun Ur Rashid was scrutinising the nomination papers.
Sources said Saifuddin took Tk 27 lakh government loan to buy trawlers.
Scrutiny session over, Yusuf Ali was going to his house with his supporters. All of a sudden the supporters of Saifuddin attacked them on the main road near upazila complex.
Five leaders and activists including Md. Bahar, Hatiya upazila Jubo League secretary, Md Rubel, publicity secretary of Hatiya upazila Chhatra League and Md. Hasan, organising secretary were injured seriously.
UNO Harun Ur Rashid later said that Saifuddin Ahmed was not a loan defaulter.
