One killed, 40 hurt as rival villagers clash

One person was killed and 40 others were injured as rival villagers clashed in Netrakona and Mymensingh districts yesterday. A middle-aged man was killed and 20 others were injured as villagers clashed at Jainpur village under Khaliajuri upazila in Netrakona yesterday over a piece of disputed land, reports our correspondent. The dead was identified as Robindra Chandra Das, 55, of the village. Police and locals said, there was a long-standing dispute between Robindra Chandra Das and Khagendra Chandra Das over the ownership of the land. Yesterday morning, after an exchange of hot words, Khagendra hit Rabindra with a lethal weapon. On hearing the news, men of Rabindra attacked the house of Khagendra with sharp and lethal weapons. Khagendra's supporters launched a counter attack killing Rabindra on the spot and injuring 20 others. In Mymensingh, at least 20 people including a woman were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Raghabpur village in Sadar upazila yesterday, reports our correspondent. Police said, there dispute was prevailing between the groups of Rafiq Master and Salam Member of Raghabpur village over a murder case filed eight years ago. Salam Member along with his supporters attacked the men of Rafiq Master with arrows that ensued a clash between the two groups at around 7.30 am, leaving 20 people injured, police said.
