Raozan: Call to deploy army
Leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Raozan unit have demanded deployment of army in the upcoming election to Raozan municipality, according to Chittagong correspondent.
Addressing a press conference at Chittagong Press Club yesterday, Raozan BNP leaders alleged that the ruling party activists and the officer-in-charge (OC) of local police station prevented their party candidates from submitting nomination papers to the returning officer on Sunday.
They said their candidates later submitted their nominations to the city election office at the instruction of the Election Commission.
The BNP leaders demanded deployment of army in the municipality to ensure free, fair and transparent election scheduled for January 18. They also threatened to boycott polls if the Election Commission did not take necessary action in this regard.
President of BNP Raozan municipality unit Kazi Abdulla Al Hasan, Ggeneral Secretary Sayed Monjurul Haque, President of BNP Raozan upazilla unit Mohiuddin Ahmed and General Secretary Salamat Ali were present at the conference.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Raozan Police Station Nikhil Chaddra Mondol has been transferred to Chittagong court following allegations of Chittagong BNP.
