150 BNP men sued in Panchagarh
At least 150 BNP men were sued on Monday on charge of obstructing police duty by attacking the law enforcrs in the morning in Panchagarh town.
Sub-Inspector of Panchagarh police station Din Mohammad filed the case against 36 identified leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations while the rest were unidentified.
Meantime, police arrested another Chhatra Dal leader Mamun Rana, on Monday night in the town.
Earlier, on Monday afternoon, police arrested injured organising secretary of District unit BNP Jahirul Islam, convener of district unit Chhatra Dal Mohammad Nuruzzaman, general secretary of district unit JASAS Yunus Sheikh, Jubo Dal leaders Shohel Rana and municipality leaders of Chhatra Dal Harun, Md Nazrul Islam, Shabul and Dablu from Panchagarh Sadar Hospital while taking treatment there. Police sent them to jail the same night.
Police charged batons on BNP's protest procession at Chowrangi intersection in front of their party office in Panchagarh town on the day.
Witnesses and party sources said about 100 local leaders and activists brought out a protest procession from their party office protesting arrest and alleged repression on Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and other BNP leaders at about 11:30am.
Police intercepted the procession and asked them to return to their office. As the BNP men tried to continue the procession, police charged batons on BNP men leaving 12 people injured. Police also hurled several tear gas shells to disperse the procession.
