80 hurt as rival villagers clash in Habiganj, Patuakhali
At least 80 people were injured as rival villagers in Habiganj and Patuakhali clashed on Saturday.
In Habiganj, at least 50 people were injured in a fierce clash between two groups of villagers over embezzling money of a mosque at Nischintapur village in Baniachang upazila.
Locals said, an altercation ensued on Saturday morning between Abdur Nur and Rafiq Miah of the village over misappropriation of the money.
Later, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other leaving 50 people from both sides injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Among the injured, 25 were admitted to Sadar hospital.
In Patuakhali, at least 30 people were injured as two rival groups of villagers clashed over a disputed land at Nayabhangoni village under Rangabali police station in Galachipa upazila on Saturday.
Of the injured, 12 were admitted to hospital and upazila health complex in critical condition, reports our correspondent.
Injured Kawsar Howlader, 35, Nazrul Howlader, 40, Mamnin, 15, Champakoli, 35, Khaled Howlader, 40, Montu Howlader, 32, Saimun Howlader, Ohidul Howlader, 40, belonging to Hafiz group and Mosheref Akon, 45, Abul Kasem, 34, Sukkur,40, Ripon, 30, Milon, 28, Khaleq, 25, Hajera, 26, Nilufa, 33, Laizu, 30, Chandu Akon, 42, of Bachhu group were admitted to Patuakhali General Hospital and Galachipa upazila health complex.
Police said, there was a long-standing quarrel between Bachhu and Hafiz groups over a disputed land. At about 9:00 am Bachhu group went to the paddy filed and started cutting paddy. After some time Hafiz group rushed to the spot and attacked their rivals. Both groups used sticks and sharp weapons.
