4 boys, girls murdered
Four boys and girls were murdered in Habiganj, Bagerhat, Rajshahi and Manikganj districts on Monday and the day before.
Body of a schoolboy was recovered from a canal in Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj on Monday afternoon, reports our staff correspondent in Sylhet.
The boy, identified as Niloy Chakravarty, 14, was a student of class eight in Awliabad High School and son of Ranjit Chakravarty of village Borhanpur.
Police, quoting family members, said Niloy went missing since he took Tk 500 from his mother and went to the nearby Mantala bazaar Sunday afternoon.
Getting a phone call at about 2:00 pm a police team, headed by ASP Sugyan Chakma and others from the Madhabpur PS, recovered the body from a canal near Boalia bridge.
They also arrested one Liton Paul, son of Mukunda Paul of the same village as a suspect.
The body bore marks of injuries, a police official said, terming it a case of killing.
In Begerhat, police recovered body of a schoolgirl from the bank of Kumarkhali Canal under Mongla upazila, reports our staff correspondent in Khulna.
The girl, identified as Jyotsna Khatun, 12, was the only daughter of Shahidul Islam of Kumarkhali village under the same upazila.
A student of class three of Khanjahan Ali Registered Primary School at Mongla, Jyotsna had been missing since she came out of her house in the evening of December 11 last, said her father.
Police, quoting the autopsy report, said that the schoolgirl was killed after rape.
A five-year-old girl was strangled allegedly by neighbours due to previous enmity with her parents at Kholabona village of Poba upazila in Rajshahi on Sunday night, reports our staff correspondent.
The girl went 'missing' Sunday morning after she went to attend a mosque-based mass education class in the village.
Police recovered the body of Amina Khatun Boishakhi from Kholabona eidgah at around 9pm after locals located it following confession of three neighbours.
Police later arrested the three -- teenager Rozina Khatun, her parents Korban Ali and Sagori Begum Tia of the same village.
They confessed to police that they strangulated Boishakhi to death and hit her with brick before hiding her body under stack of fodder at the field.
Victim's father Abdul Alim lodged a case with Poba police station against the three.
Sub inspector Nazrul Islam, who is investigating the case, said Rozina stole a cell phone of Alim about one and a half years ago.
Rozina and her family members were angry at Alim as they were forced to return the mobile phone through a village arbitration, he said.
The culprits caught Boishakhi at around 10am when she was returning home from the village mosque and later killed her at night, he added.
In Manikganj, students of Farirchar Dakhil Madrasa in Sadar upazila brought out a procession and held rally on Monday demanding arrest and punishment of the killers of their fellow student Shariful Islam.
The students brought out a procession at around 1.00pm from the madrasa premises and paraded the local areas. After the procession, they held the rally on the madrasa premises. Local people also joined the programmes.
The rally demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to those who stabbed Shariful Islam, 15, a Dakhil examinee and son of Md. Rezaul Karim of Barta village.
Sub Inspector of Manikganj Sadar police station and investigating officer (IO) Saiful Islam said Selim, 42, son of Rohiz Uddin of the village and some of his accomplices stabbed the madrasa student Shariful at around 3.00pm on Sunday at Madhabpur Government Primary School premises where he went to play carom. They also stabbed his brother Shahinur when he came to save Shariful.
The two brothers were immediately taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for treatment where the on-duty doctor declared Shariful dead, the IO said.
