85 houses, two jute godowns gutted
At least 85 houses were gutted in fire incidents on Sunday at different villages under Sadar upazila of the district.
Fire fighters and locals said, on Sunday evening at about 7:00pm, fire broke out at a kitchen of Shafiruddin's house at Khalpara village under Sadar upazila. Soon it engulfed the adjacent 41 houses.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after an hour long frantic efforts with the help of local people.
The house owners claimed the fire damaged properties worth about 20 lakh while the fire fighters estimated the loss at Tk 4 lakh.
In the second incident at about 7:30pm, fire at Shahapara village in Thakurgaon municipal area gutted four houses.
In third incident at about 10:30pm, fire originated from at the kitchen of Rafiqul Islam at Paikpara village under Sadar upazila and gutted 40 adjacent houses.
The house owners said the fire damaged properties worth Tk 25 lakh while the fire fighters estimated the loss at Tk 4 lakh.
In Magura, a devastating fire gutted two jute godowns and 12 shops at Khamarpara bazaar in Sreepur upazila on Saturday night.
Local people said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop at about 11pm and soon engulfed the adjacent 11 shops and the two godowns.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire with the help of local people.
The fire affected businessmen claimed that cash and valuables worth Tk 1 crore were gutted in the blaze.
Another report from Joypurhat adds: Fire gutted two shops at Shalaipur bazaar in Panchbibi upazila on Saturday night.
Witnesses said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at about 11:30pm and soon gutted a medicine shop and a grocery shop of the bazaar.
Fire fighters, on information, rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.
