Two more Shibir men held at RU

Motihar police on Monday arrested two accused in the case for killing Rajshahi University (RU) unit Chhatra League (BCL) worker Faruque Hossain. The arrestees are Kamrul Islam, a fourth year student of political science department and resident of Shaheed Sahrawardy Hall and Zakir Hossain, a fourth year student of management department. RU unit BCL secretary of suspended committee Mazedul Islam Opu filed the case on February 9 following a violent Shibir attack that left Faruque dead and around 100 other BCL activists injured. Police said Zakir Hossain is an accused in three cases out of total 14 cases filed against Shibir men with Motihar police station in connection with the violence including killing of Faruque Hossain. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the Shibir men from in front of Rabindra Arts Building of the university at noon. They were residing on the campus for the last few days, police said. Abu Hossain Bipu, joint secretary of RU unit BCL committee alleged that Zakir Hossain and Kamrul Islam took part in February 9 violence and went into hiding soon after the incident. Contacted, RU Proctor Prof Chowdhury Muhammad Zakaria said that the Shibir men were arrested for their alleged involvement in February 9 campus violence.
