Housewives killed allegedly by husbands, in-laws

Two housewives have been murdered by their husbands and in-laws in Sirajganj and Rajshahi. A housewife was murdered allegedly by her constable husband following a family feud at Ruposhi village in Enayetpur upazila in Sirajganj on Saturday night. The victim was identified as Anguri Khatun Sumi, daughter of Abdul Awal of the village, reports UNB. Locals said, constable Nizam Uddin, son of Rowshan Ali of the same village, married Anguri four years ago and since then he used to torture her on flimsy grounds. They said Nizam Uddin came to his village home on Wednesday from his workplace in Dhaka. He picked up a quarrel with Anguri on Saturday midnight over a trifling matter and at one stage strangled her with the help of his family members. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy. Victim's father filed a case in this connection. Nizam Uddin along with his family members went into hiding. In Rajshahi, a pregnant housewife, who was beaten up allegedly by her husband and in-laws for dowry on Saturday at Chaipara village in Bagmara upazila died at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) the next day. The victim was identified as Surma Begum, 24, daughter of Shamsul Alam of village Shibjat in the same upazila. Police quoting locals said Abdur Rashid, son of Shamsul Pramanik of village Chaipara, married Surma four years ago. Since then Rashid and his family members used to torture her for dowry money. Sources said Shamsul Alam gave Tk 50,000 and four tolas of gold to the family of Rashid as dowry at the time of marriage. But soon after the marriage Rashid and his family members started torturing her to bring Tk 1 lakh more from her parents. On the fateful day they picked up a quarrel with her over the issue and at one stage beat her mercilessly leaving her critically injured. Neighbours took her to Bagmara health complex. She was later shifted to RMCH where she died Sunday morning. Rashid along with his family members went into hiding. A case was filed.
