9 injured in attack, houses torched
Nine people were injured and nine families rendered homeless in a barbaric attack over land dispute at east Faridpur village of Palashbari upazila on Saturday morning.
Several houses were completely destroyed as those were set on fire during the attack.
Of the injured, Rustam Ali, 45, his wife Shantona Begum, 40, Montu Miah, 40, and Halima Begum, 37, wife of Ful Miah, have been admitted to Palashbari hospital, while others were given first aid.
Police have detained one Abdul Jabbar, 35, in connection with the attack. Other attackers have been absconding.
Police and local sources said the attack was a sequel to longstanding dispute over 41 decimal of land between Khaja Miah, Osman Miah and
Solemuddin, sons of late Sobed Ali of the villa and Thanda Miah, Rostom Ali, Montu Miah and others of the same village.
A case is pending in court over the disputed piece of land where nine families, including of Thanda Miah and Montu Miah, have been living.
On Saturday, Osman Ali, Khaja Miah and Solemuddin equipped with stiks and sharp weapons suddenly attacked the nine families, vandalised the nine houses and later set fire to the houses. They also looted five tube-wells, paddy, rice and other valuables.
