Settlers besiege members of int'l CHT body

Bangali settlers yesterday besieged the visiting members of the International Commission for CHT Affairs for an hour at Bagaihat under Bagaichhari upazila of Rangamati district. The members of the commission were going to see the progress of post- violence rehabilitation works at some affected villages in the upazila. The settlers blocked the vehicles carrying the commission's members and urged them to listen to their sufferings caused by the violence on February 19 and 20. The member of the commission came down from their cars and gave a patient hearing to their problems. After withdrawing the blockade at around 12:00 noon, the team members visited Gangaram Mukh, Ratkaba, Dany Baibachhara, Baye Bhaibachhari and Seminapara villages. They also talked with the affected villagers and enquired about the progress of their rehabilitation at the villages. On Saturday, the team visited affected Mohajanpara, Shantiniketan and Satbhaiyapara areas under Sadar upazila of Khagrachhari district talked with the locals. The members of the commission also sat with the leaders of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) at Surja Shika Club at Mohajanpara in Khagrachhari town. They discussed with the UPDF leaders about February 23 violence that left four people killed and 75 others injured.
