2 drown in trawler capsize
Two people drowned as a trawler capsized in the Bamni River in Companiganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Nur Maula, 40, and Sekandar Ahmad, 55.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Amjad Hossain said the trawler with 40-50 people on board sank in the Banmi River at around 10:00 am due to strong current and overloading.
They were heading for Char Elahi UP to collect relief materials, he said.
All the passengers but Nur Maula and Sekandar managed to swim ashore. Locals later recovered the bodies from the river.
UNB reports: Two adolescent boys drowned in a waterbody in Jhilmil residential area in south Keraniganj on Thursday noon.
The deceased were identified as Bappy, 12, son of Faruque and Badhan Dev, 10, son of Bashu Dev of the area.
Locals said Bappy and Badhan drowned when they went to take bath in the waterbody at about 12:00 noon.
