The authorities of Shatibari Junior High School in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district have suspended classes for an indefinite period after a tornado damaged seven classrooms of the school. As the school does not have its own development fund, the authorities sought financial help from government or charitable organisations to repair the damaged classrooms. Hamidul Islam, a class seven student, told this correspondent that their second terminal examinations would be held in August. "We will not be able to take the exams if classes remain suspended for long.” Yusuf Ali, the headmaster of the school, said seven classrooms were damaged by the tornado on June 11. "We have already sought assistance from government and charitable organisations to repair the damaged classrooms," he said. “We had no alternative to suspending classes,” he added. Aditmari upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), upazila education officer, upazila chairman and local UP chairman visited the damaged school after the tornado. UNO Parvez Hasan told this correspondent that the school authorities will soon get financial help from the government to repair the damaged classrooms. Students, guardians and teachers of the school also sought financial help from different sources to repair the damaged school.
