Robbers kill two, loot houses in districts

Robbers killed a housewife and a house owner while committing robberies in several districts on Monday and the day before. A housewife was shot dead and her husband injured by robbers at Mohontarkhil village in Fatikchhari upazila early Monday, according to UNB. The deceased was identified as Bela Khatun, 45, wife of expatriate Ahmed Safa of the village. Safa returned home recently from the Middle East. Police said a gang numbering 15-20 entered the house of Ahmed Safa for committing robbery at around 2:30am. As the members of the house raised a hue and cry, the robbers opened fire on them leaving Bela Khatun dead on the spot and her husband injured. The gang, however, later fled away when the villagers gave them a hot chase. Injured Safa was admitted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital. In Faridpur, a house owner was stabbed to death by robbers at Kannikandi village in Bhanga upazila early Sunday. The deceased was identified as Didarul Rahman, 50, of the village. Police quoting locals said a gang of 4-5 robbers entered the house of Didarul by breaking open the door and took the members of the house hostage at gun point at around 3:30 am. At one stage the gang stabbed Didarul indiscriminately as he tried to resist them, leaving him dead on the spot. Later, the robbers looted gold ornaments, mobile phone sets and other valuables from the house. On information, police went to the spot in the morning and arrested two young men from the area suspecting their involvement in the robbery. In Patuakhali, robbers entered three houses in Khalishakhali village under Sadar upazila Monday night and looted over 7 tolas of gold, Tk 32,000 and other goods including cell phone sets, reports our correspondent. Police and villagers said, a gang of 10/12 robbers looted 4 tolas of gold, two mobile sets and Tk 12,000 from the house of Mansur Ali around 2:00 am. Then the gang entered Forkan Howlader's house by breaking open door and looted one tola of gold, cash Tk 20,000 and a mobile set. From nearby Zakir Hossain's house, they took away two tolas of gold and two mobile sets. Meanwhile in Narsingdi, three robbers were arrested on Sunday when they were preparing for a robbery in the guise of Rab at Baghabo union under Shibpur upazila, reports a correspondent. The arrestees are Shariful, 23, Aminul, 22, and Dulan, 22. Acting on a tip-off that a gang wearing the uniform of Rab-11 preparing to commit robbery, a team from Shibpur police station raided the place and arrested three. Sensing the presence of police, 4-5 members of the gang managed to flee the scene. A toy gun and two knives were seized from the possession of the arrestees. Our Correspondent in Kushtia adds: Law enforcers recovered firearms and bombs and arrested three people from Gangni village in Meherpur district while the latter were preparing to commit robbery early Sunday. A joint team of Rab-6 and Gangni police raided Saharbati Madrassa at 1:30 am and caught three fleeing robbers. The arrestees are Amir Ali, 30, son of Badal Mondol, Osman Ali, 30, son of Kalu Sheikh and Sahadat Hossain, 26, son of Monwar Hosain of Kakiladah in Mirpur upazila in Kushtia district. Police recovered two shutter guns, two bullets and two bombs from their possession.
