Eight accused out of 10 still at large
Police are yet to arrest eight of the ten accused in the case filed with Assassuni Police Station, accusing them of compelling a schoolgirl to commit suicide on June 3.
Though police arrested two accused--Amaresh Kumar Mondol and Samir Kumar Mondol after filing of the case, the remaining eight, including the prime accused, are still at large.
They are Billal Hossain, Priyonkar Mondol, Hasan, Swapan Gain, Paritosh Gain, Devdulal Mondol, Habibullah and Prabir Mondol of Khajra village under Assassuni upazila. Billal and Priyonkar are the prime accused in the case.
Parul Rani Mondal, a class ten student of at Khajra High School, who fell in love with Priyonkar Gain of the same village, committed suicide being deceived by her fiancé on June 3.
Victim's father Ranjan Kumar Mondol filed the case with Assassuni upazila on the night of June 4.
Billal Hossain and his accomplices stalked Parul while she was going to her school on May 25 and at one stage Billar kissed her. The matter was resolved at arbitration and village headman fined Billal Tk 4,000 for his misdeed.
As Priyonkar later refused to marry Parul, she committed suicide by taking poison at their house on the night of June 3.
Officer-in-Charge of Assassuni Police Station Fazlur Rahman said Parul took her life being failed to get recognition of her love. He said Priyonkar, Billar and six other accused had gone into hiding soon after the incident. Police drive continues to arrest the culprits, the OC added.
