Mother, baby fall prey to filthy beast
A woman of Rishipara area in Magura town and her baby girl are groaning in pain at Magura Sadar Hospital as a culprit threw acid on them following her rejection to his bad proposal.
The victims -- Babita Begum, 28, and her four-year-old daughter Ratna -- are undergoing treatment at the hospital with serious injuries on their faces, necks and other parts of body.
The criminal, Imran, 27, of the same area, has remained absconding since the incident on Thursday night.
"After getting divorce from my husband two and a half years ago, I started living at the house of Popy Khatun of Rishipara as a tenant," Babita told this correspondent yesterday.
"I had to work as a domestic help at different houses of the area for livelihood. But Imran, son of Abul Hossain of the same area, has been giving bad proposal for the last several months and became angry due to my repeated refusal," the victim said.
About two weeks ago, Imran threatened her with dire consequences, Babita said, adding that Imran threw acid on her and her baby girl through the window on Thursday night, seriously injuring both of them.
Babita cried for help, but the culprit managed to flee, she said.
During this correspondent's visit to the area, a few locals said Imran threw acid on Babita and her daughter.
“Hearing the scream we went out of the house and chased the culprit but he fled away,” local youth Liton Chakrabarti said.
A case was filed with Sadar police station in this connection.
