BCL men assault teacher, attack another's house
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists on Wednesday physically assaulted a teacher of Zakiganj Government College and ransacked the quarter of a teacher of MC College.
The teachers of Zakiganj Government College went on an indefinite strike yesterday demanding punishment to the BCL activists who physically assaulted a fellow teacher in a classroom on Wednesday.
According to Acting Principal Md. Yousuf, lecturer of the Political Science Mahmud Ali at about 12:15pm on Wednesday asked some students, who were having a chat, to join classes or leave the campus.
A few minutes later, BCL activists Mamunur Rashid and Talha Kawsar along with outsiders entered into the classroom and locked in an altercation with Mahmud Ali.
As they started to assault him, fellow teachers rushed to the classroom and rescued him.
The teachers later held an emergency meeting and began strike from yesterday demanding immediate arrest and punishment to the BCL men.
Mahmud Ali filed a case with the Zakiganj police station and police arrested Talha Kawsar from his home at Anbandapur of Zakiganj pourashava.
In another incident, about 25 BCL activists of MC College hostel unit on Wednesday night ransacked the quarter of hostel super Saleh Ahmed who is also the head of the department of psychology of the college.
The teacher later lodged a complaint with Sylhet kotwali police.
Sources said, the MC College hostel super, during a talk with the college BCL chief questioned the eligibility of hostel unit president of BCL Abdur Rahim Ripon for staying at the dormitory since he had already finished his masters' examination.
Getting the news, Ripon, along with his supporters numbering about 25, attacked the quarter of the hostel super at about 10:30pm.
They also chanted various slogans while vandalising the doors and windows of the building.
