AL leader murdered

A union level leader of the ruling Awami League (AL) was murdered in Delduar upazila on Sunday night. The victim was identified as Abdur Razzak, 46, of Betjha village and president of Delduar Union unit AL. Razzak locked in altercation with the labourers engaged in the earthwork under test relief project in the village. He rebuked them for sitting idle, police and witnesses said. Later, when the labourers demanded wages from Razzak, he arranged an arbitration at night. At one stage of the arbitration, the labourers, most of them locals, along with their supporters attacked Razzak and his supporters with sticks, leaving him dead on the spot. Victim's wife Momtaz Begum yesterday morning filed a murder case accusing 15 people.
