3 Hizbut Towhid men arrested in Feni
Jihadi books, CDs recovered
Local people caught three militants of Hizbut Towhid while selling the Islamist outfit's publications at Feni yesterday noon and handed them over to police.
The arrestees are Rokeya Begum, 45, Fatema Akhter alias Mukta, 25, and Md Saiful Islam, 25.
Rokeya and Mukta hailed from Purba Bashikpur village under Fulgazi upazila of Feni.
Saiful's village home is at Mastarpara in Ramgarh municipal area in Khagrachhari. However, according to his national ID card his village home is at Birinchi under Feni municipality.
Locals and police said Rokeya, Mukta and Saiful went to Feni Sadar upazila office area at Sultanpur at around 12:00 noon yesterday and sold a few books and CDs of Hizbut Towhid saying those help people understand the teachings of Islam.
Being suspicious of their behaviour locals caught the three militants and informed Feni police. Police arrested the three and recovered a number of controversial books and CDs by militant kingpin Bayezid Khan Panni of Tangail.
Fatema Akhter Mukta told police that she came to sell the books for the first time yesterday. She thought that would serve the purpose of preaching religion while she would get some commission out of it. Saiful has been living in Birinchi area in Feni for last 10 years and a member of the militant outfit.
Rokeya Begum told police that he has been working with Hizbut Towhid for a long time.
Feni police station sub-inspector (SI) Md Ismail confirmed the arrest of three Hizbut Towhid members. He said necessary legal action would be taken against them.
